Eulogy for Old Back Office Accounting!

RIP (Posted Oct 22 2014)

You have been around for 25+ years creating customized back office accounting for real estate; when regular accounting systems could not handle it. We appreciate your contribution.

You were designed on a flat database which was ok in 90s but runs out of steam now and cannot handle the size, complexity and business needs of a modern day real estate brokerage company.

You cannot handle diverse commission & fee calculations and automatic resetting schemes required by many companies as part of their sales compensation.

Your design was in the PC era and have done your best to stretch out of your limitations to world of modern browsers, using terminal servers and that has not done much.

You were a great help for accountants but sales managers were left lurking in the dark on operational analytics since they did not have “on demand reports”. These are the people who matter the most and get the business to begin with.

Your product architecture did not exist or was of a limited nature trapping valuable customer data forever with no porting standards or API or modern banking standards with EFT etc. Hence porting from one back office to another is useless.

The world and technologies have changed. People use browser agnostic software everywhere which are on demand, provide real time analytics on their business with a push of a button. Modern accounting systems like Intuit Quickbooks® and Microsoft Dynamics® offer excellent solutions on cloud accounting with a wide infrastructure for banking, EFT, Payroll, Taxation etc.

System like planetRE Money is one such solution that handles real estate sales accounting on the cloud managing diverse commission plans, fees and intricate rules. It integrates seamlessly with modern accounting systems giving you a perfect blend of a complete sales and general accounting system. It can run on all major browsers and multiple devices. New architectures allow transparent porting of data via secure APIs and single sign ON architectures.

We all want to move to the new era. This is the era of cloud software and the old guard has to give away to the new and that is the law of business.

We bid you adieu by moving to the new era by managing money in the cloud.
